Subject

Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Casal Kulzer has been appointed Univ.-Prof. at the University of Stuttgart as of 01.01.2022 and will take over the chair of Automotive Powertrain Systems (Institute of Automotive Engineering Stuttgart) as of 01.10.2022; he thus succeeds Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bargende. In the course of the appointment, the chair will be renamed from "Automotive Powertrains" to "Automotive Powertrain Systems" as of 01.10.2022 in order to emphasize the system relevance of the work on vehicle drives even more strongly.

In addition to the application and basic research-oriented teaching activities in the field of automitve powertrain systems, which range from electromobility to hybridized drive systems and internal combustion engines to hydrogen and renewable fuels, the chair's employees conduct research in the main areas of sustainable drive systems, efficiency increase, emission and noise minimization of automotive powertrains. The focus here is on the systemic optimization of all drive systems: from hybrid, fuel cell and electric drives to internal combustion engine drives.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Casal Kulzer completed his mechanical engineering studies, specializing in applied thermodynamics, including two semesters of the Erasmus/Socrates program at the Technical University of Braunschweig, in 1999 with the diploma examination in Lisbon and received his doctorate in 2004 from the University of Stuttgart in the subject area "Direct start of a gasoline engine with direct injection", including model, simulation, measurement technology and software development as well as with test setup and execution.

From 2004 to the beginning of 2012, he held various positions in research and advanced development at Robert Bosch GmbH, most recently as head of engine thermodynamics in advanced development. From 2012 to the end of 2021, he took over project management positions in advance drive development at Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, most recently heading the Performance Development and Combustion Processes department, including the topics of regenerative fuels and electrified concepts.

As of 01.01.2022, Prof. Dr.-Ing. André Casal Kulzer was appointed Univ.-Prof. at the University of Stuttgart and will take over as head of the Chair of Automotive Powertrain Systems at the Institute of Automotive Engineering Stuttgart (IFS) at the University of Stuttgart as of 01.10.2022. Prof. Kulzer is also a member of the Board of Management (initially as deputy director until 30.09.2022) of the Research Institute for Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS), which is closely associated with the University of Stuttgart.

As author or co-author, he has contributed to more than 100 scientific publications on sustainable propulsion concepts and energy sources incl. eFuels, engine thermodynamics, modeling, simulation, control and regulation of propulsion concepts and systems.
