Das Motorenprüffeld umfasst derzeit 19 Motorenprüfstände. Das Leistungsspektrum reicht von einem Kleinmotorenprüfstand mit 12 kW und 30.000 min-1 bis zu einem Nfz-Motorenprüfstand mit 700 kW und 3.700 min-1. Das IFS und das Forschungsinstitut für Kraftfahrwesen und Fahrzeugmotoren Stuttgart (FKFS) betreiben eine intensive Forschungszusammenarbeit.
